Industrial Pretreatment Program

The Industrial Pretreatment Program serves to protect the integrity of the sewer conveyance system and wastewater treatment plant. This protection is accomplished through permitting, sampling, and on-site inspections of the industrial users that discharge a process waste-stream into the sewer conveyance system. For those industrial users that discharge a process waste-stream that may be considered high strength or pose a threat to the biological process at the wastewater treatment plant, pretreatment may be needed. Industrial pretreatment is when an industrial user actually performs some type of treatment such as chemical, physical, biological, or a combination of the three before it discharges into the sewer conveyance system. Permitted facilities must meet certain discharge guidelines adopted from federal, state, and local regulations before discharging into the sewer conveyance system.
