Columbus Day 
Columbus Day is a national holiday that pays tribute Christopher Columbus landing in the Americas in 1492. Christopher Columbus intended to voyage toward China, India, and Asia. But on October 12th he landed in the Bahamas, making him the first European to explore the Americas. His discovery led to the great nation of the United
President Franklin D. Roosevelt pronounced the holiday originally on October 12th, but in 1971 Columbus Day was changed to the second Monday in October.

Today, the holiday is celebrated to honor Christopher Columbus and Italian-American heritage all over the United States. No matter how you decide to celebrate Columbus Day, whether with your family or in a parade, we hope you have a fun-filled and relaxing celebration!

In observance of Columbus Day, our offices will be closed on Monday, October 14th, 2019. If you experience a water related emergency during this time, please call 706-649-3400.  Emergency crews will be available to assist you.
